the Moeraki area
When driving down the East Coast on route One south of Oamaru 30 kms is the Moeraki area.
A must stop is the Moeraki Boulders one of New Zealand's natural wonders of giant boulders strewn about the beach.
A good cafe and gift shop there also. You can either thale the turn-off road to the left to the cafe area or straight ahead to the parking lot on the beach. If it is low tide you can walk to the "rocks" from there.

Next is Moeraki - a small fishing village,on the left going south. Be sure to have a look or even stay the night at the holiday park. Try to make it to one of New Zealand's top restaurants and meet the owner and namesake, Fleur, one of the country's finest people. If you enjoy seafood it doesn't get any better than this.
